SOE to host the 2018-19 Gene A Budig Lecture in Special Education

LAWRENCE — The School of Education welcomes Elizabeth Kozleski, professor in the Department of Special Education, as the 2018-2019 Budig Teaching Professorship in Special Education award recipient and featured lecturer. 

Her presentation, “From Teaching to Learning: Shifting Roles and Identities,” will take place at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in 150 Joseph R. Pearson Hall. A casual reception will immediately follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public. 

Kozleski currently serves as a research professor in the Department of Special Education. Her research interests include the analysis of systems change in education, how teachers learn to practice in complex, diverse school settings, as well as how educational practices improve student learning. “Dr. Kozleski is a renowned researcher who is one of those scholars who is able to take her findings and apply them to improving schools,” said Rick Ginsberg, dean of the School of Education. “Her research is widely known and used nationally and internationally.”

The Gene A. Budig Professorships and lecture series were established in 1994 by Gene A. Budig, KU’s 14th chancellor, and his wife. The Budig Teaching Professorship in Special Education was added in 2002 with the intent to recognize outstanding faculty instruction in the Department of Special Education.
