Transcript Evaluation Fee

If you are interested in obtaining a transcript analysis to determine your status for Kansas licensure, please read the following information carefully. We will perform an analysis for our Graduate Licensure Program (math, science, foreign language or P.E.) or for licensed teachers who want to add endorsements. We do not offer written analysis for our competitive undergraduate programs for initial licensure in Elementary Education, Social Studies or English; you can get the necessary information by meeting with an undergraduate advisor. Most program information is posted at soe.ku.edu.

We provide this service to current KU students and KU alumni at no charge. If you are not a current or former KU student and wish to have coursework evaluated from other colleges, a $30.00 fee, payable in advance, helps cover the staff time involved in evaluating the transcripts and providing a written response. If you are a professional educator currently working in Kansas and want to add an endorsement through KU, a $20.00 fee will be assessed (per endorsement) for transcript analysis or course equivalency for any non-KU courses.

To initiate your evaluation, please submit official transcripts along with a cover letter including your name, address, phone or email, social security number, and KUID number if applicable. Faxes or photocopies of transcripts are not accepted, as they are not authentic. Include information on current or past licenses held (from which state, subject and level) as well as listing the subject area and level for which you desire licensure in Kansas (i.e. Biology 6-12, English 5-8). This information will help us to provide you with an accurate evaluation and a "deficiency plan" or course of action needed to complete the full certification requirements. Forward all necessary materials to Licensure Officer, School of Education, 211 J. R. Pearson, 1122 West Campus Rd., Lawrence, KS 66045.

If you need to have a foreign transcript analyzed, KSDE mandates that you get a transcript analysis from a NACES company (http://www.naces.org/members.htm); I recommend ECE or WES.. International students who completed a teacher education program and taught in another country may be able to get Kansas licensure by working directly with KSDE; look for details on their web site under Educators, Licensure, A-Z, Foreign Applicants.

A transcript analysis does not imply admission to a degree program or recommendation for licensure. Fees are not refundable. Faxes are not acceptable.

We will not process your request without a check or money order for the appropriate fee payable to KU SOE Licensure Office. Under normal circumstances, you will receive a written response within 6-8 weeks. If you have additional questions, contact Alisa Palmer Branham at abranham@ku.edu.
