Preparing Educators as Leaders

Pre-service teaching: A window to the classroom.

Each of our undergraduate teacher education programs require the pre-service teacher to complete a student teaching experience. This experience must be secured through the Field Experience Office (mherm@ku.edu). To student teach, you must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 and a 2.5 GPA in the major. You also cannot have earned a grade lower than a "C" in any professional education course. Our student teaching experience(s) varies among program. Below is an overview of their configuration, and please review the program-specific handbook for more detailed information.

Summative Evaluation

Assessment is an essential component of the student teaching experience for our pre-service teachers. Use of assessment tools aligned with Kansas education standards help our students better understand expectations and set goals for their performance.

At the end of the student teaching experience, the clinical supervisor and university supervisor should submit a Summative Assessment form online for their student teacher(s). Melissa Robinson, Field Experience Coordinator, will send you the password for this form early in the semester and again when the due date approaches, but feel free to contact her for that information at mherm@ku.edu
