Preparing Educators as Leaders

Prepare to meet the demands of academy and society.

We understand that graduate students attribute much of their academic satisfaction and productivity into the quality of their advising experiences.  Graduate advising at the KU School of Education is a function managed individually be each academic department.

Masters Degree Advising

You will be assigned a faculty advisor upon admission to your graduate program within the academic departments of the KU School of Education.  Most of the time, the faculty advisor serves as an instructor within the academic program you have been admitted to; and the faculty advisor will help you to plan your academic success from admission to graduation.  We encourage you to visit your department's web page for more information. Review our list of academic departments.

Doctoral Degree Advising

Each department will admit a select number of doctorate-level students for their individual programs, and most students are admitted with a specific faculty advisor already designated.  Your faculty advisor will typically work with you in approximately three phases of your academic career: coursework, comprehensive exams, and dissertation. We encourage you to visit your department's web page for more information. Review our list of academic departments.

Graduate Licensure Program Advising

If you have a prior bachelor’s degree in Math, Science, Foreign Language or Sport Science, consider the Graduate Licensure Programs (GLP) through the KU School of Education.  Our GLPs require a mixture of undergraduate and graduate coursework, and usually require about 55-60 credit hours.    It is important to work closely with your faculty advisor because our academic advisors who serve in the Education Advising Center do not advise students in graduate programs.  We encourage you to visit your department's web page for more information. Review our list of academic departments.

 KU Edwards Campus Advisors

If you are a graduate student at the KU Edwards Campus, the KU School of Education provides you a graduate advising staff member to serve as a liaison between you and your assigned faculty advisor.  The KU School of Education Graduate Advisor is one of the KU Edwards Campus staff members dedicated to your success at that campus in Overland Park.
