New online program blends instruction with state assessments

Blending Assessment with Instruction Program (BAIP) was developed by the University of Kansas e-Learning Design Lab in collaboration with the University’s Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE).

BAIP is designed to provide support to teachers in aligning their instruction with curriculum standards in mathematics. BAIP is made powerful by aligning lessons and student tutorials with statewide assessments that are used to measure the achievement of students in fulfilling performance objectives of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation.

BAIP includes 1781 instructional units embedded in 276 lessons for teachers and 416 online tutorials for students. All lessons include extensions for accommodating the instructional needs of students with exceptionalities.

Lessons for teachers are supplemented by instructional tutorials for students that are designed to develop competencies in the skills and knowledge required by standards in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10. Tutorials also serve a remedial function as well as an assessment function and are designed to be independently studied by students.

To enhance instructional decision making, BAIP includes a feedback system that provides individual student and classroom data to teachers in a timely manner. All BAIP resources are delivered online.

The Kansas State Department of Education has made BAIP available statewide. To date, 239 school districts have registered to use the BAIP resources.

For more information, several BAIP links are provided here for registering and using BAIP. Click on the pictures below for a quick look at components of the BAIP program.
