Ann Turnbull receives 2007-08 Higuchi award for visionary research
For the past 25 years, Higuchi research awards have been presented annually. The four named awards recognize individuals who helped bring Higuchi to KU and who facilitated the development of research efforts across Kansas. At a ceremony on Oct. 18, 2007, Turnbull received the Balfour Jeffrey Award in Humanities and Social Sciences and $10,000 to further her research. Turnbull’s primary research focuses on support of families of children and adults with disabilities. Her work has been influential in discovering ways to enhance the development of a family member with disabilities while maintaining a good quality of life for the entire family. In addition, A. Townsend Peterson, university distinguished professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and curator in the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Institute, received the Olin Petefish Award in Basic Science for his work in the fields of species distribution, biodiversity informatics and disease geography; Charles D. Little, professor of anatomy and cell biology at the KU Medical Center, received the Dolph Simons Award in Biomedical Sciences for his study of the physical forces that shape embryos; and Paul A. Seib, professor of grain science and industry at Kansas State University, received the Irvin Youngberg Award for Applied Sciences for his research on cereal carbohydrates, wheat-based foods and stable forms of vitamin C. |
