University of Kansas Special Education Plans 50th Anniversary Celebration Preliminary plans are to begin the celebration with a special dinner at the Spencer Art Museum, followed by a series of events, including a special event at the Dole Institute of Politics, an event introducing the Meyen Distinguished Lecture Series funded by Stan Love, an event announcing the recipient of the Williamson Endowed Professorship in Special Education, a celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Beach Center on Disabilities, distribution of a special publication authored by current and past faculty and alumni, an alumni recognition event, the opening of a unique library collection of special education literature with special emphasis on pedagogical materials, and culminating with the KU Special Education Leadership Award announcement at CEC. Alumni and former faculty are encouraged to share personal memories, photos, or professional archive materials to use in displays and/or the special publication. Contributions to the Department of Special Education through the KU Endowment Fund are also encouraged in support of either on-going activities of the department or for this special anniversary celebration. Information will be forthcoming about special Anniversary events including lectures, teleconferences, and social events in Lawrence and at other locations around the country.
