KUPD Student Conference: "Research to Practice"

Keynote speaker - Dr. Steve Graham, Professor and Currey Ingram co-chair in Special Education and Literacy, Vanderbilt University, and KU Department of Special Education alum, will present on "Evidence-Based Practice: Yes, but with Cautions & Recommendations." Keynote will start at 9:00 a.m. in Alderson Auditorium.

Post-Conference Presentation - Dr. Karen Harris, Professor and Currey Ingram co-chair in Special Education and Literacy, Vanderbilt University, will present on "Publishing in Top-Tier Research Journals," 1:30-2:15, Alderson Auditorium.

KUPD Luncheon Lecture: "Networking"

Guest speakers: Dr. Chriss Walther-Thomas, Department of Special Education Chair, and Tracey Williams, Doctoral Student

This lecture will feature a presentation on “Where are they now?” (placements of doctoral students following graduation) and an interactive presentation on the “how to’s” of networking.

KUPD Luncheon Lecture: "Career Paths Outside of Academia"

This panel discussion will address career opportunities available to KU graduates beyond faculty appointments.

KUPD Sponsored Lecture: "Critical Conversations: Women, Disability, and Power" brought to you by the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center.

Topics of discussion include: What are the effects of the "media culture" on our views of disability? How can we promote policies and practices that challenge stereotypes and promote success?

KUPD Brown Bag Lunch: Donna Beauchamp will facilitate discussion on the "R" word

This hot topic event will be a discussion of issues around awareness and tolerance related to individuals with disabilities. Several current event media stories will be highlighted but we are interested in your perspectives on this topic. Donna Beauchamp, the facilitatory of the Beach Center Affiliated on-line Communities of Practice, will moderate the discussion. Please bring your lunch and KUPD will provide refreshments and cookies.

KUPD Luncheon Lecture: "Internships: Who, What, When, Why, Where, and How?"

A panel of former and current doctoral students, including Dr. Nina Zuna, Hyo Jung Lee, Melanie Harms, Luchara Sayles Wallace, and Hung Jueong Cho will share their experiences and perspectives regarding the benefits of internships during doctoral training.
