Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship?

Scholarships are granted to undergraduates, fifth year students, graduate licensure program students, master's students, specialists and doctoral students. You may apply for a School of Education scholarship if you are a:

  • Graduate student who started graduate program coursework no later than January 2010. (Graduate students beginning Fall 2010 are not eligible.)
  • Professional/5th year or graduate licensure program student for Fall 2010 &/or Spring 2011.
  • Undergraduate students who are either currently in the School of Education OR
  • Undergraduate students who are applying to the School of Education for Fall 2010. This includes undergraduate transfer students.

Any undergraduate scholarship award will be contingent upon acceptance into the KU School of Education for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Additionally, for incoming graduate students to the School of Education, there is a limited pool of recruitment scholarship money. To find out about these one-time scholarship opportunities, please contact the academic department to which you are applying.

Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each for Fall and Spring semester. Graduate students, including Professional/5th and graduate licensure program students, must be enrolled in at least 6 hours each for the Fall and Spring Semester.

Please Note: Students graduating in Spring or Summer 2010 are not eligible for scholarships and should not apply.


Achievement-based and Donor-based Scholarships

Who is eligible to apply for a Donor-based scholarship?

To apply for a School of Education Student Donor-based Scholarship you must fulfill the above general eligibility criteria. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to undergraduate students, fifth-year students, graduate licensure program students, and to master’s, specialist and doctoral students. Most of these scholarships have been made possible through the generosity of private donors, who include education alumni and their families, retired and current faculty and staff and other friends of the School of Education. Scholarship funds are managed by the KU Endowment Association on behalf of these private donors.

Who is eligible to apply for a Achievement-based scholarship?

To apply for a School of Education Achievement-based Scholarship you must fulfill the above general eligibility criteria. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to undergraduate students, fifth-year students, graduate licensure program students, and to master’s, specialist and doctoral students. To be eligible for a achievement-based scholarship, undergraduate and 5th Year/Professional year applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.25; graduate students must have a GPA of at least 3.75.

Achievement-based considerations will include the applicant’s academic performance (GPA), education-related extracurricular and work activities, evidence of involvement in and commitment to the education profession, and for graduate students, one’s record of scholarly activities.

Important: Scholarship Information Please Note:


  1. Students will fill out only one application to be considered for both donor-based and achievement-based scholarships
  2. To be considered for a financial need-based scholarship, students must fill out a FAFSA (for U.S. citizens) or an ISNAW (for international students). Please note: the FAFSA will not be available until January 1. You may apply for a PIN before then.
  3. Graduate students will only need one reference form completed by any School of Education faculty member.
  4. Those who receive scholarships will be required to attend the Scholarship Awards Program on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 1:30 PM and write a thank you letter to their donor(s).

Scholarship Application Checklist

  1. Complete the online application by 5:00 p.m. February 26, 2010.
  2. To be considered for any scholarship based on financial need, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA; for U.S. citizens only) or an International Student Need Analysis Worksheet (ISNAW; for international students only). Please note: the FAFSA will not be available until January 1. You may apply for a PIN before then.
  3. Graduate Students only (Masters, Specialists, Doctoral) - The following must be returned to the Welcome Center, 208 Joseph R. Pearson Hall, by faculty or by student
