Establishing Your Tutoring Schedule

The following lists are Lawrence Elementary Schools that have a working relationship with America Reads, and the schools you will potentially be working in. Begin establishing your tutoring schedule by contacting the teachers listed on the request forms you have chosen. Teachers can either be reached via phone or via email. Please contact teachers by the means they specify as well as during the times they have listed. If phone calls do not work, however, because you are constantly leaving messages, teacher emails can be found on the Lawrence Public School District web site at www.usd497.org. Type America Reads in the subject line of emails to teachers.

Once you have made contact with your teacher, introduce yourself as an America Reads tutor that is interested in filling a request they have submitted. Next, ask to set up a 20 to 30 minute meeting to speak with him or her about scheduling specifics, special needs of the child, goals to be met, and how he or she would like you to meet those goals. Each time you visit a school for meetings with the teacher and all subsequent tutoring sessions, you must sign in the school’s visitor log.
