Psychology & Research in Education
The School Psychology
Program is a unique professional program within the School of Education, administered through the
Department of Psychology and Research in Education. The program is coordinated by a committee
composed of representatives from the Department of Psychology and Research in Education and school
psychology students. The program offers both the Ed.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The Ph.D. program is
accredited by the American Psychological Association. Both the Ed.S. and Ph.D. programs are approved
by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the National Council for the
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the Kansas State Department of Education.
Steven W. Lee, PhD - General and test anxiety in children and youth; school program evaluation; functional behavior assessment; classroom-level observations and interventions; student assistance teams.
Patricia Lowe, PhD - Anxiety in children, adolescents, and adults; behavioral and personality assessment; measurement; prevention; neuropsychology
Julia Shaftel, PhD (Director of the Center for Psychoeducational Services) - School psychology and learning disabilities, assessment and management of learning and behavior problems, large-scale assessment of students with special needs, attitude and behavior assessment.
The core requirement for Ph.D. students in the School of Education includes courses in statistics or research, human learning or development, history, philosophy, or social foundations of education and general curriculum or general instructional strategies.
