To: Friends, alumni, reviewers and others interested in the University of Kansas School of Education and the education licensure programs at the university
From: Rick Ginsberg, Ph.D. - Dean
Welcome to the University of Kansas. We offer a number of initial and advanced programs in teacher preparation, school psychology, and educational leadership. Our programs infuse technology across the curriculum and have been informed by assessments that are conducted on an ongoing basis. Our programs represent the best state-of-the-art practices in all the fields we teach, with strong content requirements and significant field components in a variety of diverse settings. We have a highly qualified faculty, are pleased to be able to attract wonderful students, and have terrific partners to work with all across campus and in the professional community.
The University of Kansas is categorized as a Carnegie Very High Research Activity University. As such, the School of Education has multiple missions related to the teaching, research and service activities of the faculty. Not all programs are engaged in licensure related work. We have a number of research and public service centers that support the work of the faculty in the departments. This past year, the U.S. News and World Report ratings of graduate education programs ranked the School of Education 15th among public universities. The Department of Special Education was rated # 1 among public institutions, the Secondary Curriculum program 19th. Research is a major part of what we do in the School of Education, and we use our research to inform our teaching and the development of our professional preparation programs.
We are pleased that you are here and look forward to your visit.
Cordially,
Rick Ginsberg
