Assessment is an essential component of the student teaching/internship semesters for our pre-service teachers. Use of assessment tools aligned with Kansas education standards help our students better understand expectations and set goals for their performance. Below we have outlined the evaluation guidelines for our clinical and university supervisors based on the content area of your student teacher and/or intern. For access to the actual forms or to complete a form online, click on the link.
If your student teacher is an Elementary Education student, you will complete one formative assessment form half way through the experience. Please return this form to your student teacher’s university supervisor when it is completed. You are also responsible for completing the summative assessment during the last week of the experience. This form will be completed online. You should receive a letter or email from our Field Placement Office during the semester with your username and password. You will use this to log into our system and complete the evaluation.
If your student teacher is teaching any content area other than elementary (this includes music, art and physical education student teachers), then you need to complete one summative assessment at the end of the experience. This form will be completed online. You should receive a letter or email from our Field Placement Office during the semester with your username and password. You will use this to log into our system and complete the evaluation.
If the student teachers you supervise are Elementary Education students, you are required to complete two formative assessment forms during the student teaching experience and three formative assessment forms during the internship experience. You are also responsible for completing the summative assessment during the last week of the experience. This form will be completed online. You should receive an email from our Field Placement Office during the semester with your username and password. You will use this to log into our system and complete the evaluation for each of your students.
If your student teacher is teaching in any content area other than elementary (this includes music, art and physical education student teachers), then you are required to complete a formative assessment at each visit. The number of times you visit is determined by your department, so please check with the appropriate faculty. For C&T students, you should visit twice during the student teaching experience and three times during the internship experience. You are also responsible for completing the summative assessment during the last week of the experience. This form will be completed online. You should receive an email from our Field Placement Office during the semester with your username and password. You will use this to log into our system and complete the evaluation for each of your students.
If you have any questions or concerns about our assessment requirements, please do not hesitate to contact Melissa Robinson, our Field Placement Director, at mherm@ku.edu.
