Guidelines for Proposing for Credit Field Experiences/Internship Higher Education Program

Process for Exploring Possibility of Enrolling in a Field Experience/Internship Section:

  1. Contact faculty supervisor:

  2. Make an appointment with field experience supervisor.
  3. The following areas will be discussed at the meeting with the field experience supervisors and the faculty supervisor:
    • Statement of Purpose (Proposal)
      • Past educational and work experiences that provided the impetus for interest in the field experience.
      • Detailed description of the field experience and how it relates to the student’s affairs experience base.
      • How project relates to future professional aspirations.
    • Objectives of Purpose
      • Stated in an objective manner so that outcomes and evaluation are easily communicated and understood by supervisor and student.
      • Stated so that it is easily understood whether the activity is designed to broaden the knowledge of theory, content and foundations of the profession and/or the development of skills such as: interpersonal, organizational, management of others.
    • Activities/Interventions
      • Final Paper of 3-5 pages
        1. Review experience to see if objectives were met. (Self evaluation)
      • The person who supervised the student’s experience will be contacted to see if the objectives were met.
      • The supervisor of Field Experience will meet with the student to discuss the final paper.

Students who enroll in the Field Experience section should spend 15 hours/week or 240 hours/semester on their project for 3 hours of credit.

Sometime during the final semester, ALL students enrolled in a Field Experience will meet to discuss their own project
