  • American Educational Research Association : The leading national organization for educational researchers. Page also contains job listings for professionals in the field of education and information on the AERA National Conference (San Diego, 1998).
  • American Education Finance Association : The leading national organization dedicated to the study of how schools are financed. Contains a number of links to interesting data and simulation sites as well as other associations.
  • Association of School Business Officials International : The national organization for K-12 school business officials. Publishes "School Business Affairs" magazine and the "Journal of Education Finance."
  • Council of Chief State School Officers : A nationwide, nonprofit organization composed of public officials who lead the departments responsible for elementary and secondary education in the states, the US extra-state jurisdictions, the district of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity. In representing the chief education officers, CCSSO works on behalf of the state agencies that serve pre K-12 students throughout the nation.
  • Education Commission of the States : a policy analysis commission for state departments of education. Extensive data collection and reporting is their prime function. A good source of publications about school policy issues.
  • National Association of College and University Business Officials : The national organization of College and University Business Officials. An exceptional site for information on Higher Ed. Finance!
  • University Council on Education Administration : A national organization dedicated to the study and promotion of educational administration. They also coordinate the National Graduate Student Seminar in Educational Administration.
  • National School Boards Association
  • Phi Delta Kappa : An international association of professional educators. Their mission is to promote quality education, with particular emphasis on publicly supported education, as essential to the development and maintenance of a democratic way of life .
  • American Association of School Administrators : A national organization for superintendents and central office staff. Annual meeting information and publications are listed on this cite.
  • United School Administrators of Kansas : An organization of superintendents, principals, school boards, and others in Kansas. A good link to other educational cites in Kansas and around the nation.
  • National Staff Development Council : A link to the professional staff development organization and their publications.
  • UCEA : A link to the University Council of Educational Administrations professors' group with annual convention information, which can be searched and is a good source for ideas about dissertation topics.

  • American Association of School Personnel Administrators: A professional association of school HRM people.
  • Rand Corporation : A nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decision making through research and analysis. A good source of research documents from class size research to teacher evaluation. The site contains an effective search engine for their documents.

Data Sources

  • FEDSTAT: Source of government statistical data from more that 70 federal agencies
  • National Center for Education Statistics : NCES is a branch of the US Department of Education. Annual publications include The Digest of Education Statistics and Projections of Education Statistics. Databases include the Common Core of Data on public school districts around the nation and the National Educational Longitudinal Study, a survey of students from the 8th grade class of 1988 through follow up in 1994.
  • US Census Bureau : A great way to get data to the county level on economic and demographic conditions.
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics: An excellent source of economic related labor statistics.
  • Regional Economic Information System : Download time series data on all major economic indicators down to the county level. Generally available through a 30 year span.

  • CONNECTICUT : Home page of the Connecticut State Department of Education
  • VERMONT : Contains the Vermont School Reports, a comprehensive data file from 1996 and 1997 including more than 33 demographic, economic and educational variables.
  • KANSAS : Home page of the Kansas State Department of Education. Contains financial data and school district report information. The site also contains the MS Excel spreadsheets (for download) for use in financial reporting to the state and the new version of the MS Fox Pro custom application for The Superintendent's Organization Report.
  • MISSOURI : Home page of the Missouri State Department of Education.

  • North Central Regional Educational Lab : A source of many other links and teaching material, also linkages to other regional educational laboratories

  • Kansas Department of Human Resources : Information about the labor force and laws in Kansas.
  • EEOC Home page : A link to the information about various types of discrimination and recent rulings.
  • Eric Clearinghouse on Educational Management : A great link to information useful to policy makers and practitioners. This site contains references to many hot topics like school violence, class size, leadership, vouchers, standards, school reform and so forth.
  • First Government: 27 million pages of information posted on the federal government's 20,000-some Web sites. First-Gov won't take you directly to a document or report, but it will help you find it.
  • Statescape : track issues and initiatives state by state at this site. It's also got legislative timetables and full text of individual bills
  • Access Kansas : The official web site of the State of Kansas. Includes a variety of topics of interest to Kansas citizens including: living in Kansas, learning in Kansas, operating a business in Kansas, working in Kansas, recreation and travel, government, Kansas facts and history.

Library Resources

  • KU Library Home Page : A good place to start your search. Includes links to various data bases including Lexis-Nexis.
  • KU Education Link: A listing of education electronic data bases. Your best link to the ERIC system. KU ID required.
  • KU Uncover: A service for performing literature searches and ordering articles found in journals not carried by the University of Kansas. If an article found is not carried by KU, the article may be delivered free of charge. Note that searches do include articles in journals covered by KU.
  • KU Card Catalog: Useful for finding out where research journals can be found in the KU library system or whether KU carries the journal.
  • Findlaw : An extensive search engine for law cases and other legal information
  • Law Office : A full-blown legal information center oriented toward consumers and small businesses
  • Library Educational Resources: A home page compiled by the Watson Library Educational Specialist, Lea Reid. Includes references and links in the main campus library to educational topics.
  • Supreme Courts: Until recently, the only ways to find out exactly what was said in oral arguments before the Supreme Court were to sit through the session, order a transcript by mail, or visit the court's library. Now transcripts are posted online within 10 to 15 days, and sometimes sooner.
  • Reference Desk : the single best source for facts on the Net. Encyclopedias devoted to the martial ares, plants or women's history? You can find them by following links from this site to hundreds of information providers.
  • Bartleby : Several shelves' worth of reference works-not only the expected dictionary, thesaurus, and quote source but anthologies of poetry and fiction, guides to writing, thumbnail biographies of noted authors, and much more.
  • Human Management Resource Guide : This web site contains links to other internet based resources for HRM professionals and students. A great source for information and help with school personnel matters.
  • WilsonWeb: Full text of 1,328 periodicals: business, humanities, science, education, & social science journals, plus popular magazines. Page images from more than 1,090 titles, from 2000 forward. Retrospective coverage as far back as January 1994. Total number of journals, excluding name changes: 1,330. Includes full Education Complete content.

  • USA Today Newspaper : A link to USA Today
  • Education Policy Analysis : An on-line journal focused on policy positions and articles in education. Full text publications are available and you can subscribe to receive automatic e-mail announcements of new publications.

  • National Job Search : posting job opportunities at K-12 levels across the nation, certification requirements, and salaries.
  • MOREAP : Missouri employment center including job searches, tips, school information, and other links
  • U.S. Department of Education : National Teacher Recruitment Clearinghouse is a one-stop shopping site for information on who is hiring what kind of teachers, as well as tips for effective head-hunting and different ways of getting the credentials needed to work as an educator.
  • Praxis School Leadership Series : This site contains an extensive description of the Praxis School Leadership Series (ETS) required for certification in Missouri and some other states. The first test in School Leadership Series is the School Leaders Licensure Assessment and the second test the School Superintendent Assessment. This site describes the tests in detail.
