Foreign Language Education

Foreign Language InstructionThe University of Kansas, School of Education, Department of Curriculum and Teaching is responsible for the teacher education student's professional year, that professional year during which their student teaching, internship, and graduate study occurs. The Foreign Language Education emphasis is one area to which many students are attracted. The University offers a veritable melting pot of languages from which to choose, and the School of Education teaches the student how to teach these languages to others at the middle and secondary levels.

Additionally, students return to the University of Kansas to pursue their advanced, graduate degrees in Foreign Language Education.

The Core Requirement for Doctoral Students in the School of Education

The core requirement for doctoral students in the School of Education includes courses in statistics or research, human learning or development, history, philosophy, or social foundations of education and general curriculum or general instructional strategies.

Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Application

The Department of Curriculum and Teaching offers graduate teaching assistantships that enable students to be employed while completing an advanced degree. Graduate assistantships are available for student teacher supervision, undergraduate teaching, and work on research projects. This also could include assisting faculty with course instruction or research and/or supervising student teachers at the elementary, middle, or secondary levels. Applicants pursuing a doctorate in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching are preferred. Classroom teaching experience is highly preferred.
