Preparing Educators as Leaders

Mawson Scholar Speaker Series at KU

The Mawson Scholar Speaker Series was established by Marlene Mawson in summer 2016 as an annual event, designed to bring a prominent sport management scholar and presenter to the University of Kansas each fall semester.

Mawson was a professor and administrator at KU for 22 years. In 1990 she was appointed Department Chair of Kinesiology & Recreation at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., where she served until her retirement in 2000. The international academic organization, “North American Society for Sport Management” (NASSM), elected her President for the 1997-98 year. Mawson was inducted into the University of Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009 for her contributions to women’s athletics.
